5K COLOR RUN!

On 4/13/2013, Blue Spinel and I attended the ‘Color-Me-Rad Fundraiser Race’. It is a race that you can attend that raises money for the Special Olympics. This race is national, so it’s not very often you can go to it. Basically what it was in short was a 5,000 meter race where you got sprayed with paint every Kilometer.

Blue Spinel and I were at thefront of the starting line, while the DJ was throwing pink and purple powder at the upcoming runners. We were the ten o’ clock racers. Before I knew it, the DJ was doing a starting count down to begin the race.

During the first thirsty seconds of the race, Blue Spinel and I  were at the front of the crawling mob of people. There were groups I categorized them in: the fast athletic ones, the pace yourself ones, the joggers, the walkers, and the leisurely ones. Blue spinel and I were in the joggers and pace your self group. We occasionally sprinted, then jogged, walked, fast walked, jogged, sprinted, and so on. This running tactic was really cold for conserving energy.

The first color point one the race was pink. There were bucketfuls of pink pigmenting powder that was thrown at uperson person had a dry spray hose that made Blue Spinel and I look like walking dolls. In the middle of the color point, volunteers were handing out color bombs. I caught two of them, blue and purple. Color bombs (copyrighted) are Justin two by three plastic packets of pigmenting powder.

The next color was yellow, and I was almost out of breath.  But Blue Spinel and I managed to run through the yellow. Volunteers were sprathey yellow paint every where and I got two nice thick stripes across my back. Next was the purple powder, and Blue Spinel and I had agreed to Gangnam Style through it. Coincidently, there was someone playing it on their phone. I was sprinkled in purple over my shorts, and the. I pushed Blue Spinel forward to get colorful.

The final color was orange, which was powder. I got excited and ran faster because i could hear the DJ yell through his megaphone. At the finish line, I picked up some abandoned color bombs with Blue Spinel, and we threw them at her mom and Park Ranger.

This was the funnest Running event in my life and I one hundred percent recommend it to anyone who is willingly to get messy. I hope the color run comes back to Kansas soon!

Egypt Journal-Day One-New York

I’m in NY right now, in the New York Palace hotel. This journal entry is just a huge list of what I did today, so this is what I did today : 1) I went to a huge church that was intricately decorated with white marble and stained glass windows. It’s basically your average church with way more details and statues trimmed with gold. The interior was filled with tons of candles and it was known as St. Patrick’s Church. Not the most creative name but it was beautiful. 2) We went to the Rockfeller Center and saw a huge gold statue in a fountain in front of a huge ice skating rink that held about two people, but its maximum occupancy was about 250 people. 3) We looked around Legoland. There was a dragon, a replica of a statue in Rockfeller Center, a big red apple, and other things that were made entirely out of Legos. My estimate on how many Legos used and how much time it took? About 2500 Legos and some 12 hours with multiple Lego experts working on it. The statues were huge! One wall was lined with depressions that held some 2 million Legos (that’s an estimate). The whole wall, floor to ceiling, held small depressions, about one inch apart, filled with different types of Legos. There must’ve been about 200 types in all! 4) We looked around the Metropolitan Museum of Art shop and saw some really awesome glass birds. We also saw these glass magnets that had flowers and butterflies in them. They were beautiful. I read a book on optical illusions and the encyclopedia to immaturity. They had a few pretty good tips on how to disrupt classes and other crazy things. 5) By the time we got out of that shop, it was raining. We ate at a Chinese restaurant, thinking that in Egypt we wouldn’t be able to eat Chinese food. The things my mom ordered were pretty good, but half of them were spicy, and if you know me, then you should realize that I DON’T EAT SPICY FOOD. That being said, I tried the two spicy dishes and started on the fried rice. Nom nom nom. It was good food. 6) When we were rushing back to our hotel, it was raining, raining, raining. My coat got all wet. Humph. 7) I’m back at the hotel about to go to bed, so good night!

My Spring Break 2013

On March 23, 2013 I got off the boat, saying my farewells to Princess. Roatan, Belize, and Cozumel… I will really miss the warm touch of the brilliant sun, the gentle sea spray, or the magical feel of life in every nook or cranny, underneath every rock or behind colorful coral.

So now in the car, I write this journal.
My favorite countries were probably Roatan and Belize. Roatan with its place teeming of life, and Belize with the wonderful snorkeling.
In Roatan we went to an iguana farm (they are so cute!) afterwards some monkeys climbed on our heads (they are also so cute!) Did you know that monkeys are known for their playful and lovable behavior?
Oh mama, Belize was just beautiful! We rode a boat to a small island. It had slightly rocky pale cream colored sand, with cool, crystal clear water. Palm trees were scattered here and there. There were two shacks for food and some gift shopping.
We went snorkeling in the crystal clear water there. The guide we had with us was very nice, I gave him a tip. Omigosh it was pretty! We saw a stoplight parrot fish, some blue angelfish, and even a barracuda! The sand there was very soft, unlike the rocky sand on the island. I was sad when we left the island.
After stoppingg by at Cozumel for some gift shopping, we came back to the boat for the last day. Princess Pop Choir preformed then after a few shows, we all went back to our beds for the last night at Princess.
So now, with a tan and warm memories, I write this conclusion: Princess, I miss your room service! But I also miss the sun and carefree times, although I know I must go home to my responsibilities. I hope to be on a cruise with Princess again, if not at least travel to Roatan, Belize, or Cozumel. Until then, I guess I’m gonna stay in Kansas for now!

TROLLING POLLING

A Rose

Cedar Waxwing

Cedar Waxwing

This is a personal narrative of a rose I saw. Even though its ridiculous, I want to know if you guys approve of my describing skills. Yup.

It glimmered in the transparency of the sunlight, decorated with crystalline dew drops like studded jewels. The colors of the rose were absolutely glass-breaking. They appeared soft like the chest of a Cedar Waxwing, with  Mother Nature’s beautiful bland of eye-popping hues.

The stem and leaves of the rose were an army green, with bright spots of budding lime, as a sign of freshness. The petals are like jumping into a sea of silk. A pale, soft  orange washes over the half of the petals which are tipped with a vibrant neon orange. The near center of the rose is breathtaking. The pale orange and a ghostly yellow mix creating an astonishingly beautiful color as soft as featherdown, and as vibrant as a bird of paradise.

The still budding center is gentle, like as the song of an bunting, and the air of a glowing moon. In fact from a bird’s eye view, the shade of moonlit yellow is like a fantastical picture of a mid explosion.

Reflection part six

I wrote this a while ago in my journal so it may not be the best piece of writing ever, and it may not be continued. It just happens to be a high school romance so, brace your selves!

Prologue

She took a quick glance into the school bathroom mirror. What? She looked again, wide-eyed. The face in the metal frame was not Robyn. Robyn had caramel, shaggy hair parted to the side and clipped up with a white pin. Her eyes were luminous green on her peachy skin and blush colored lips.

The face in the mirror had deep, dark, walnut colored hair that pulled back by a leather headband, and tied into a high ponytail that was maneuvered into a braid.  The skin on this bust was ever so pale, and the mouth was beige. But most queer of all, was that they- Robyn and the mysterious face- both had the same eyes; the color, the little gray streak in the left side of the pupil on the right eye, the same long lashes that shielded their eyes.

Robyn tore her gaze away, sucked in her breath, and dared a glance back at the cursed, school bathroom mirror. She glanced away, but then snapped her head back.  But that’s- what- WHAT?! What is freaking going on! She saw the face of her dead brother, Kirk, staring back at her with brown, mournful eyes. He mouthed “twenty three”.

Chapter One: Black

Rebecca

I stumbled back to her third hour math not caring about if people bumped into me or accidentally shoved me away. I saw Kirk. No one had seen Kirk for three years. Three FREAKING YEARS and now he turns up in a mirror in a school bathroom?!

I walked into Mrs. Miller’s math hour, and roamed drowsily to my desk and shoved all my binders  under my chair. Mrs. Miller rambled on about how sophomores like us started to learn about the Pythagorean algorithm, while I was thinking. Twenty-three? That was Kirk’s favorite number.

“All right, class. If x squared-2=(x+2)(x-2), then what is X? You have three minutes to calculate, class. Start!”

I already knew the answer: 23. I was in gifted so she had a slight advantage. So I just sat there, like stone. Veronica, my sister, who sat next to me, whispered, “It’s twenty-three right?”

I nodded.

She sighed. “I know, I know. You’re thinking of Kirk. But don’t let it stop you from living a good life. You know that, actually, something really creepy happened today. I looked in the mirror and saw-”

I snapped out of my thought and completed her sentence. “-A face totally different from your own?”

Veronica’s jaw dangled open. “Yeah! And then I looked back and saw-”

“-Kirk?” I whispered?

“Yes.”

“CLASS! Are you done? Because from what I see, only Robyn, Veronica, Nick, Lila, and Mister Jerald Pfeffer completed. If you don’t finish, it’s-”

“RR-RRI-RING!RING RING!” The class bell rang and all the students rushed to get out before Mrs. Miller said Homework.

Chapter 2: Animation

Veronica

Since we’re twins, Robyn and I have the same classes together. We both walked to Pod 4.5, Row 23 and went to our lockers. We have this kind of telepathic signature, where if we concentrate hard enough, we can psychotically communicate. But only for ten minutes because we can suffer the temporary loss of one of our senses if we do it too long.

Do you think that the mirror thing was a coincidence?

No.

Then it’s some mysterious force, pulling at our minds?

No. Maybe we both telepathically were speaking for too long, so we

That can’t be! The senses are completely blocked out, not messed up.

We pulled out our computer Technology folders and walked down Corridor 19890 to Computer Tech.

Watcha guys talking about?

Oh. Did I forget to tell you? The only other person who can interfere with our telepathic conversions is Nick. What a perv. Personally, I think he’s cute, but Robyn finds him so…. annoying. ?????

Get out of  our minds! Robyn shot a look at him.

I was never in your minds, or was I? You two thinking About, Me? Nick smirked.

I silently giggled.

Shut the fudge up, or get creamed in dodgeball in Gym!

The three of us were still communicating as Mrs. Morris talked about our next animation project. We three? Yes? Were a group. Hooray. As our assignment, we had to build a story on top of our previous animation, and make a ten minute movie out of it. Our previous animation was 3 minutes long, and was about an enchanted promise land. Even creepier, the characters in the movie was what all three of us envisioned in the mirrors of the school bathrooms.

REWIND

Get out of our minds! Robyn shot a look at him

I was never in your minds, or was I? You two thinking About, Me? Nick smirked. I actually saw something in the school bathroom mirror today. It was really creepy; I saw this sexified version of my face. and then I saw…. um…

Kirk? And Twenty-three? we both said.

I silently giggled

We tried to use the new iMoviemaker app, but it was jacked up. “How are we supposed to get As now?” Robyn wailed, and she flopped onto the spinny chair like an invertabre.  “I can help,” Nick smirked, and wiggled his eyebrows, leaning in closer to Robyn. She pushed him away. “That’s okay….. I’m good… Hey, what’s this?”

A new document popped up. It was named “23”.

We exchanged glances of suspicion, as Robyn tentatively clicked the open button. Document 23 turned out to be a complete fifteen minute animation story, built on the previous one.

“Okay, that’s just creepy,” I said.

“Lets watch it!” Nick exclaimed. and reached over Robyn’s shoulder to take over the mouse.

It started as our little enchanted world, and then this boy comes. Wait, that’s Kirk….! The ‘us’ get into a violent fight with him and it turns out to be an evil…. thing that dies and morphs into this necklace with a crystalline teardrop pendant with engraved symbols.

Chapter 3: Lunch

Lila

Finally! Lunch. I ran to meet Robyn and Veronica in Corridor 19890 to walk to the commons for lunch. We talked about school and whatnot. But I felt that there was something they weren’t telling me.

We sat down at our table; table 3B. Here is the list of my spontaneous table mates: Nick, Micheal, Robyn, Veronica, me, Moni, YoKarr, and Finn. Fantastic group, they are. We piled our tray with pizza, potatoes, salad and the non-toxic mush they serve down in the Jim-Bob.

With our plates filled, we ate amid awkward silence. I believe that I was the only one noticing the angst and worry and retch of looks that Nick, Veronica, and Robyn were exchanging. I concentrated hard, so hard that a throbbing vein popped out in my temples, struggling to break the telepathic barrier that kept me from hearing the little conversation. Everyone else however, was staring at me. That was when I had realized how awkward it was to have a spoonful of mashed potatoes and brown rice dripping with fudge halfway to my wide mouth with my eyes squeezed tight.

Kirk——-imposs——-car acci——three y—-

That’s when I realized I knew who Kirk was. I became frantic and clenched my fingers so that they folded and figurined into a twisted design of a pentagon, and it turned white. My face overcame with a wave of white, and I had experienced just then a painful feeling.

It was time to leave. I dropped my spoon, splattering a mashed potato covered nugget onto my tray. Weaving through the commons and jabbering sophmores, I quickly reached a bathroom where there were no cracks in the stalls. I touched my collarbone, watched myself become transparent as I stepped north 10 inches.

Chapter 3: Pearls

Robyn walked with Veronica by her side, Nick hot on their trail. The entire science period, Lila was no where to be seen. Everyone knew how engaged in science Lila was. She especially loved astronomy. Whenever the teachers proposed life on Mars, she quivered with nervousness and objected.

[defending her home planet- OWCH! What the Dickens?]

[stupid narrator give away]

Their 5th hour 2nd period science, the troupe went outside for a biology experiment.

Horse Back Riding

For my birthday, we went horseback riding at the same place we went to for my sister’s birthday, Saddle Creek Stables. Last time I went I had a beautiful and well behaved horse. This time I had a beautiful and, well, sort of lazy horse. Her name is Pocahontas, Poco for short because she was so slow. She had a very pretty dappled coat. Butterscotch, snowy white, and raven black. Poco is also a bit small, the perfect size for me. I would have no problem riding the beautiful thing; she is very nice and great for kids.

Poco can slack off a bit though, when the lady was introducing her to some people, she said that a snail could probably beat her! Poco is also very well behaved, she obeys all my commands and responds to the slightest twitch of the reins-of course in her own time. I would have to squeeze my legs together to get her to go a little faster. I said”walk” so many times it doesn’t seem like a word anymore!

The last time we went, autumn colors were dancing so the view was amazing. This time the view wasn’t as pretty but being in the woods with nature is still breathtaking. We got to see three doe! They were so graceful and pretty.

Just like last time, as soon as we neared the ranch, I felt my stomach drop and my heart bracing itself to say good bye to my horse. This time I actually moaned out loud. As slow as Poco was, she was still just as well behaved as Leah, my horse last time. I loved her and nearly cried when Poco was lead away. I actually did get misty, no one noticed though. God bless my beautiful Leah, and young little Poke. I hope I will go riding again sometime soon.

THE YEAR OF THE SNAKE (AKA THE YEAR OF THE JUNIOR DRAGON)

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2013 is the Year of the Snake, which begins on February 10, 2013 and ends on January 30, 2014.  The Snake, also called the Junior Dragon,  is the sixth sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 Animal Signs.  It is the enigmatic,  intuitive, introspective, refined and collected of the Animals Signs.  Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means that your family will not starve.  People born in the Year of the Snake are keen and cunning, quite intelligent and wise.  They are great mediators and good at doing business.  Therefore, you should have good luck if you were born in the  Year of the Snake.

This is a year of  water Snake, and all things will be possible.  Saving money and being thrifty should be your top priorities.  Delusion and deception are common in the year of water Snake.  Stay alert!  To gain the greatest benefits from this year, you must control spending and use your talents wisely.  If you are planning to get married or to begin a business partnership, be sure to thoroughly investigate the other person’s finances and background before you legalize the alliance.

 The Sign of the Snake

People born in the Year of the Snake share certain characteristics:  Acute, aware, charming, cunning, elegant, mysterious, passionate, proud, serene, and vain. They are attractive people who take cries with ease and do not become flustered easily.  They are graceful people, exciting and dark at the same time.  They enjoy reading, listening to great music, tasting delicious food, and going to the theater.  They are fascinated with all beautiful things in life.  Many of the most beautiful ladies and men with strongest personalities were born in the Year of the Snake.

Contemplative and private, Snake people are not outwardly emotional.  They usually act according to their own judgment and do not follow the views of others. They can appear cunning and reticent and work very modestly in the business environment.  They will plot and scheme to make certain things turn out exactly as they want them to.  They are not great communicators and can become quite possessive when they set their minds on achieving the interest of a partner.

Snake people become easily stressed and have to avoid hectic schedules or noisy atmospheres.  They need calm and quiet to thrive and succeed.  They must have sleep, relaxation, and peace  to live a long, healthy life.

People born in the Year of the Snake are usually very sophisticated and cultured in their choices for home decoration.  They are elegant and graceful and place emphasis on their comfort when deciding what to decorate with.  They are materialistic and need to have as many of everything as possible.

They become bored easily and therefore change jobs quite frequently.  They are very conscientious and diligent at work.  They are organized and precise, cautious and alert when doing business.  They act confidently, calmly and have a strong sense of responsibility and clear goals. Sometimes, because they like to work alone, they can seem as though they are withholding information or being secretive about some important things.

Snake people are oversuspicious, which is their nature.  They hide their suspicion, and acting as if nothing is on their minds.  They like to think deeply, plan carefully and make a systematic and appropriate exposition of their views. They like to follow the fashion and be properly dressed. And, they usually speak with great care.

Snake people are passionate lovers and show a strong desire for control when associating with others.  They will never forgive anyone who breaks a promise.  They show their resentment with ice-cold hostility instead of bitter words.  Some of the people born in the Year of the Snake may strike their enemies with a deadly blow.

It seems not easy to deal with a person born in the Year of the Snake, especially when he thinks one way and behaves in another.  There always lies an alert heart behind his serene appearance.  He has a strong will and will try his best to hold fast to his position.  He is so cunning that when you think you may have seized him, he has already slipped away.

Snake people will face danger fearlessly and deal with unforeseen disasters. They are not annoyed by lack of money and are usually lucky enough to own everything they need.  They can be successful as long as they avoid excess spending.  Although they are intuitive, they should avoid dive right into decisions without weighing the consequences.

Les Miserables

Today I watched the movie called Les Miserables. This movie is based on the French Revolution. (Just so you know, I will leave a lot of holes in my summary because I really don’t want to spoil it for you!) So there is a slave, named Jean Valjean. He is a slave because he stole some bread to save his nephew. After being released into freedom for eight years, Jean V. is now the mayor of a town.

Then there is a woman. She works as a seamstress and her name is Fantine. One day, she is taken to the hospital by Jean (mayor) after being abused by men in alleys. She dies, asking him to take care of her daughter, Cosette. Jean then takes in Cosette as if his own daughter. They go into hiding because someone (Jaber) who was Jean’s old slave captor is looking for him.

When Cosette is 16, she sees a young boy and falls in love with him. Jean finds out and is devastated, to have his daughter taken away. He plans to get rid of the boy, but ends up helping him survive a bullet. They get married. And then Jaber kills himself, then Jean dies.

It is sooo……. sad but the tissues are worth it.

Chapter 3: Pearl

Robyn

Reflection part five

PAUSE

FAST FORWARD

Time Freeze Chapter 5

Chapter 5

I jump out of my seat, point at him and exclaim, “Jordan! What are you doing here?!” I cover my mouth, the second I say that. Everyone looks at me, and starts talking. “Oops, sorry. I didn’t mean to say that.”

“Haha, well it looks like you two know each other.” My teacher says to us. He turns to Jordan and says, “I’m sure you know Amber too, right?” Jordan nods. “Then you can take the seat next to her.” He starts walking over to me, and all the girls glare at me. I can tell this is going to be a hard year.

I slide down in my chair, hoping Mr. Matthews could start class already, but instead he says, “Oh, yeah, Amber, you will be in charge of giving a tour around the school for Jordan and Serena.” Oh great, I think to myself. It’s going to be a perfect day.

Jordan leans over to me and asks, “Is the teacher nice?”

“Mhm, he’s not bad, really funny. Now tell me, are you still worried about making friends?” I whisper back.

“I think I’m fine, considering that I know you, your sister, and your boyfriend.” I was about to tell him Chase isn’t my boyfriend, but Mr. Matthews interrupts me.

“Are you two done talking? We need to start class, you two can talk after.” I feel my cheeks burn, and all the girls eyes turn into wolf eyes, ready to catch their prey, which is me. I nod, and take out my spiral, and start jotting down the notes Mr. Matthews is writing down. Today we’re talking about nine eleven and the twin towers. After I finish taking the notes, I rip a piece of paper and write,

Chase isn’t my boyfriend!

I hand it to Jordan, who takes it and reads it under the table. He picks up his pencil and scribbles something on the paper, and hands it back to me. I take it and look at it. His handwriting is horrible! It took me a whole five minutes to decipher the two sentences he wrote. It said,

You sure about that? Even though I just met you, I can see he likes you.

I stick my tongue at him and tear up the piece of paper. I grab the papers Abby hands to me.  I take one and give the last piece to Jordan. I scan the paper and see that we are doing it in groups of four. Abby nudges me, and points at me, Jordan, Serena, and herself. I nod.

But Mr. Matthews makes us change our plans. He says, “Because we don’t have many people in this class, instead of groups of fours, we will do groups of twos.” I nudge Abby this time, and she nods.  He continues on, “I will be assigning the partners.”  Everyone groans. I think, please don’t let it be Jordan, not Jordan, please. “I will call two names, and the two people I call will stand up. Drew and Alec, William and Austin.” They stand up; Drew looks upset, and William and Austin high-five each other. “Josie and Kyle, Joshua with Liz.” He continues and I block it out. I hear my name get called and I stand. Then he says my partner’s name, which just happens to be Jordan. I swallow a groan and fake a smile.

“Lucky!” Abby tells me.

“Tell that to yourself,” I grumble. “Who’s your partner?”

“Serena.”

“Not bad, tell me if she’s nice.” Mr. Matthews opens his mouth to say more, but the bell rings. I stand up, grab my stuff and tell Jordan and Serena to put their stuff away, and meet me by my locker.

I go up to Calvina, who is at her locker and say, “You’re never going to believe who is the new guy.”

“Oh really?” She says with a raised eyebrow. “Try me.”

“It’s Jordan.” I wait for that to sink in, but it doesn’t. So I say, “The Changer we met this morning.”

“You’re kidding me right?” She gasps. “No way! Give me proof!”

“I got proof,” I point over to Jordan, who is walking over to us. “There is my proof, and I need to give him and the new girl a tour of the school, so I won’t be in band. Can you tell that to the band teacher on your way to the strings room? Thanks.”

“Yea, who’s the new girl?”

“Serena, she’s Chinese. She looks shy, but I think we can be friends.” The second I finish saying the last word, Jordan comes over. After a minute, Serena is here, and she says hi to Calvina. Then my sister leaves for her next class. Just when I was about to start the tour, Chase comes running over to me.

“What is he doing here?!” Chase demands as he points at Jordan.

“He’s apparently the new student, and now if you excuse me, I need to give them a tour.” I push him out of my way and start leaving. But I hear Chase say, “Watch him closely!” I ignore the last comment and start the tour.

“We are going to go to the music hall first. I’m in band, and I play the flute. Are you doing strings, band, or choir?” I ask.

“I play the alto sax,” Jordan replies.

“I’m in strings, I play the violin,” Serena says.

“That’s cool, the strings teacher, Mrs. Goldmen, is very nice– my sister, Calvina, has her. On the other hand, Mr. White, the band teacher sucks, I like band, but not the teacher.” I walk to the end of a hallway and turn left. “Over there is the gifted room, and the library.” I point to the hallway that is to the right of us. “The auditorium is to the left.” I keep on walking, and I point out where the sophomores, juniors, and seniors have their lockers. We also pass by the swimming pool, and the gym.

We finally reach the music hall, we hear the band and strings people playing their instruments. The two sounds battle against each other, making it sound chaotic in the hallway. I shout over the noise, “As you can tell, this is the music hall, the band room to your left and the strings room to your right, you will keep your instruments in the room. You bring it here every morning and take it before you leave. You NEVER put you instrument in your locker, not that you can fit it in. Oh, the the choir room is next to the band room; you just can hear them.”

I cover my ears, and walk past the three rooms, to the end of the hallway and say, “Over here is the door to the track.” I walk out of the music hall, and to our left is two sets of doors. “This is the south entrance, if you ride the bus, you get off and on here. Also you can walk over to the middle school, which is really close by. And the room in front of us is the counselor’s room.” I hit myself on the forehead and exclaim, “Shoot! Forgot to show you guys the French and Spanish rooms. Oh well, I’ll show you that last. Are any of you taking a foreign language?”

Serena shakes her head, while Jordan nods.

“I’m taking Latin.”

“Okay, I’ll tell you where that is last. Now, to the commons! That’s what we call the lunchroom.” I turn to the left, then the left again. We enter a large open room, with white walls, and colored tiles.

“Tada!” I exclaim. “It’s kind of plain, but hey, the foods good here! And bonus points too! We order food from places like, Burger King, McDonalds, Sonic, and other places like that every other Friday! At the wall that is across from us, the has two doors, one leads to outside, and the other to the nurse. To your left is where you get your lunch.”

I walk across the room, reach the front entrance, and pass the office. “I’m sure you have seen the office and front door, so we just made a circle. Also the Latin room is in the tenth grade pod. So that’s the end of our tour! Third hour is going to start soon. What do you have next? I’ve got reading, with Mrs. Bender.”

“Same,” They both say at the same time.

“Wow… LOL.” I laugh. “Well let’s go. Mrs. Bender hates tardy students.” We walk together back to the locker area and grab our stuff, then head to Mrs. Bender’s room.

We take the three open seats in the back. Chase also walks in and takes the seat next me. I groan and slouch down in my seat. Why? It’s not like I like him, he knows it too. Can’t he just leave me alone?

Mrs. Bender walks into the room the second the bell rings. A guy runs in exactly one second late, panting like a dog.

“You’re late!” Mrs. Bender states strictly. “Is anyone missing?” She starts class when no one answers. “Today we are having a surprise quiz on the reading process. I know this was from a long time ago, four years ago to be exact. But I want to make sure you still remember everything you learned in middle school.” Nobody dares to make a noise, but we all are complaining on the inside. She hands us a paper, and on it is a bunch of lines and numbers. I don’t remember much, but I try my best. Let’s see.. the first step is to set a purpose, next is plan, and so on. When we all finish, Mrs. Bender collects our papers, and starts a long boring talk about the importance of reading. I almost fall asleep, but then Chase sends me a note. I open it up and see,

Meet me after school at the Rock.

The Rock is a rock near the track, people usually meet up there after school. I crumple up the note and decide that the lesson is more important. The day passes by quickly, algebra, science, then lunch.

Lunch is awesome, I love it, like most kids. The food is great, well that’s my opinion, I know people who don’t like the lunch here. Also I can just chillax and talk with friends, have some fun. I go grab a tray, and get some chicken nuggets, a little bit of mash potatoes with a ton of yellow gravy, and a dinner roll. I also get some slices of honeydew melon. This is always my favorite lunch here. I pay, and get a cup of water. I walk over to my usual table were all my other friends are seating. They wave at me to tell me to go over there, but today I want to sit with Serena and Jordan. 1) Because I think they would be great friends, 2) so I can piss Chase off about sitting with Jordan, and 3) because I got to know if Jordan is trustworthy or not. I pick a table that is right next to my friends, so I can still talk to them.

“Sorry!” I tell them. “There’s not enough seats for Jordan and Serena.”

“Oh, okay,” One of my friend, Liz says. “But what’s your relationship with Jordan anyways?” Everyone at the table nods in agreement, curious about it too.

“What? It’s nothing, I just happened to meet him before school.”

“That doesn’t make sense. You were with me the entire time,” Abby notes. Oops, I think. Darn it, need to think of something!

“Uh… I was um…” I stutter, luckily Calvina comes over.

“What’s up everyone?” She asks.

“Nothing much, just questioning Amber’s status with Jordan. You know him too, right?” Liz interrogates my sister.

“Yeah, I know him.”

“How?”

“Does it matter?”

“Well duh!” I watch them talk to each other, it feels like a ping-pong game, back and forth, from Liz to Calvina.

“Fine, Amber met him before, and she introduced me to him, there, it’s that easy.” At that time, I see Jordan, I wave at him to tell him to sit with me, but he didn’t see me. So I get up, out of my seat and walk over to Jordan, who looks like he has no idea where to sit.

“Want to sit with me?” I ask him. He nods. “Well then, it’s this way.” I steer him over to where I am seating.

I introduce him to my friends, “Jordan meet my friends, everyone this is the famous Jordan.”

“Hey,” he says to my friends with a smile, and everyone at that table smiles back at him. I notice that smile is his trademark smile; he shows all his top teeth, and his mouth looks like half a circle. Also when he smiles, his eyes twinkle with something that looks like sadness. I think he actually has a dark history behind him. He could easily be super popular, and Chase could have some competition. Jordan chats with my friends, and Serena comes over. I introduce her to my friends, and she quickly becomes friends with Rachel, who is also Chinese. They have conversations in Chinese, leaving us in awe and wishing we could do that too. Soon lunch is over and class is about to start.

I head to my next class, which is language arts. Jordan’s in in my class… Again. Hip-hip-hooray… Well, he’s not that bad, but still it gets kind of annoying how he seems to follows me around everywhere. He sits next to me, and starts reading a book. I look at the cover and it says, Artemis Fowl. I don’t like that book, once a friend had told me it was good, and I tried to read it, but I didn’t like it. I finished the first book, and a bit of the second book. I have to say, the second was better, but I never finished so I’m not positive about that. Class starts as quickly as it ends. Today, this class was a bunch of fun, our teacher, let us play some games, and talk.

Finally, it’s my favorite class, gym. I love gym, it’s so much fun. Today, I believe we are playing basketball, which is one of my best and favorite sport. I go into the girls locker areas to change. My gym locker is near Calvina’s and Liz’s. I was about to unlock the locker, when I feel the pain again on my arm, this time I don’t think about anything, and just grab onto Calvina and  freeze time. I feel dizzy and cold, but I ignore the feeling and just drag my sister out of the locker room, and out to the gym room. I find Jordan out there too, looking frantic at first, but once he sees me, he calms down.

“Wait, did you do that?” he asks me. I put my hand up, telling him I don’t want to talk now. The world slowly goes dark again, and I collapse on the floor.

Snow Creek Skiing

What is skinny, long, and makes you fall on your butt? …… Skies!

Yesterday my dad and I went to Snow Creek to go skiing. My dad and I made the mistake of bundling up with the assumption of it being blistering cold. Actually, once you start moving, it can get kind of warm. It was our first time there so we took lessons. Our teacher wasn’t that great. She said a naughty word and she doesn’t seem really patient. She sighed when I fell. And she was like “You just made a big accomplishment – you realized that your feet are now as big as your skies!” how embarrassing!!

Anyways, skiing itself was REALLY fun. I think I’m a good beginner because I could navigate my turns pretty well. The next time I go, after a couple times on the bunny hill I think I can go to the big hill. My dad fell quite a bit and had to use the poles.

After a couple of hours my feet started hurting from the tight boots. I now have four blisters. The boots were really uncomfortable. Our teacher said they were supposed to be that tight. My feet hurt even when I walk and my dad wasn’t feeling too good either so we decided to go home. Skiing was a great opportunity. I hope I can come back next winter!!!

Time Freeze Chapter 4

Chapter 4

I open my eyes and find myself laying on the seat of the bus, with my head in Calvina’s lap. I forgot what happened at first, but after a second or so I remember: a Changer was trying to go through time in this town!

“Shoot!” I say as I bolt up. I temporarily have black dots dancing in front of my eyes. When I get better I say, “That was not a good idea.”

“What the heck happened?” Chase asks. Darn it, I forgot I had brought him with me to the Pause. The Pause is what I call the stop in time.

“Ugh.” I groan. “Long story, and we don’t have much time. I’ll tell you on the way there.”

“There is where?” Chase asks.

“At the TOP,”  The TOP is the highest and oldest building in our town.

“Why the TOP?”

“Because it is the tallest building in our town,” I answer, as I quickly run out of the bus. Chase opens his mouth to ask another question, but I silence him. “Just wait and let me finish. Hurry up and follow me!” I run to the street where the school is, and turn left. “I’m a time freezer; I can freeze time. And there are people called Changers who can travel through time, and they change it.” I make another left turn when we reach the library. That’s when we enter the old part of town.

“Oh, did I mention I lose a day of my life when I stop time, but that only happens when you turn thirteen, so when you are responsible.” I look back to see if Calvina was okay. I’m the more athletic one in the family, but Calvina isn’t bad. She’s fast, but not good with long distance. Calvina is a bit behind, and I can still see her panting, so I stop for a moment.

“And I know when a Changer is trying to go through time when my mark turns purple and burns. So I stop time and find the Changer. I know who is the Changer because they will still be moving when time stops.” Calvina finally catches up with us, so I start running again.

“And Changers are always trying to time travel at the highest place possible, because the higher they are, the further back or forward in time they can go.” While I’m explaining Chase is listening closely, with his eyes wide. “And about the saving the world part, I stop time, and they can’t go through the portal to go to a different time. So they can’t change it or do whatever they want with it.” By now Chase’s mouth is probably going to fall of his head.

“That’s basically it.” I turn right, then left.

“So the story your grandma told was true?” Chase asks.

“Yea.” I turn right again.

“Wait, why are Calvina and I not frozen?”

“Because I was holding Calvina’s arm, and you grabbed her shoulders.”

“Oh, so that’s why you shook my hand off your arm.”

“Yea.” We reach an intersection, and I run forward. In front of us in the TOP. The TOP is about forty stories tall, we have to tilt our heads back to see the top of the building. It was a business building, but business got good, so they moved to a bigger city. I see a small silhouette of a person. It looks like a guy.

“Come on!” I open the door to the building. The hinges of the doors are old and it makes a loud noise. “So much for a surprise attack,” I mutter to myself. I walk into the dark building; there is dust everywhere. I could see footprints of muddy shoes on the ground.

“I’m guessing those are the Changer’s footprints,” Calvina says, panting. “Because they are still wet.”

“Let’s follow them,” Chase says. We follow the footprints and it leads to the stairway. We walk up the stairs in silence. Chase tries to break the ice by telling jokes, but Calvina and I were in no mood for jokes. Chase eventually stops, after he can tell we aren’t really listening. We continue walking in silence in the dark.

After what seems like hours, we finally reach the top. I open the door that leads to the rooftop, and the bright sun blind me. I shield my eyes, and wait for them to adjust.

When they have adjusted, I look at the Changer. It is a guy, and he looks about our age. He has golden brown hair, and amber eyes. The guy has a tan colored skin, and isn’t exactly tall, but he’s still pretty tall. He’s wearing a t-shirt and shorts, like a typical guy. He looks new to this town, and a bit nervous.

“Who are you?” I demand.

As he opens his mouth to answer, I notice he has braces. They match him, and makes him look cuter. I shake my head to get rid of that ridiculous thought, yeah right, me falling for a Changer? That has to be funny. “I’m… I’m Jordan.” He says in a shaky voice.

“Well Jordan, what do you think you are doing?”

“I was going to go to the future just to see if I am going to make any friends. You see… I’m always shy and never have many friends, so I just wanted to check. I wasn’t going to change anything!”

“Sure,”I say sarcastically. “I totally believe you.”

“No! I promise! Please don’t hurt me!” He actually seems like he is telling the truth.

“I think he is telling the truth,” I say to Chase and Calvina.

Chase shakes his head, “You can’t actually believe him, he is tricking you!”

“Chase, let me make my own decisions!” I snap. I turn to Jordan and say, “You’re coming with us, to go to the bottom of the building. I’m going to let you go now. But I’m still going to watch you, and see if you do that again.”

“Wait, who are you people? Are you all Freezers?”

I shake my head, “Nope. Meet the Freezer of the town, yours truly, Amber Carlson. My sis, Calvina, and Chase, my friend. Now you will tell no one about this meeting, or who we are, ‘kay?” Jordan nods his head. “Now let’s go.” I open the door, and hold it for Jordan, Chase and Calvina. When they all walked through the door, I step into the stairway. The door closes slowly, cutting of all the light. As we walk, we talk together, not about anything in particular, just random stuff.

“Jordan, do you have any siblings?” Calvina asks in a curious tone. Jordan gives no answer, after several attempts of trying to learn about his personal life, we gave up.

“Do you like pets?” My sister asks. Jordan nods his head.

“You don’t like to talk much, do you?” Chase asks.

“I talk, but I don’t want to say too much.” Jordan replies. I understand him and nod. After talking about bananas, hamsters, books, and pencils, we finally reach the first floor of TOP.

“Okay, time to go! You probably have to go to school too. I wish you luck on finding friends. I’ll probably start time again the second I reach my bus, so you might want to hurry up.” I say to Jordan. The three of us go back to the bus, but this time, there is no rushing.

When we get back to the bus, Chase sits down in his regular spot, and Calvina and I sit down too, like nothing happened. Just when I was about to get us out of Pause, Chase gets up.

“How many days do you have left?” Chase asks.

“What?” I’m confused. What is he talking about?

“How many days do you have left before you die, is what I mean.” I stare at him, why would he care anyways? I don’t even want to know the number of days I have left.

“Are you crazy? No! Get back in your seat, I’m going to start now.” I put my hand on my mark again and say “Obcasio  satus, obcasio satus.” Which is time start, time start, in Latin. Everything slowly starts moving again.

“Are you sure your arm is okay?” Abby asks again.

“Yea, I’m sure,” I reply. A couple minutes later, we arrive at school. We hang out in the library until the bell rings. Then we go to our lockers and unpack our stuff. Abby goes section M, and Calvina and I walk to section C. Abby comes over to our lockers and wait for me to finish getting ready.

“Hurry up, you’re always the last one done!” Abby complains.

“Okay, okay!” I say as I speed up. “I’m done!”

“Then let’s go!” Calvina exclaims. We walk together to go to our first hour. Abby and I have the same class, but Calvina has reading, Mrs. Potts, which is the room across from ours. Abby and I go to social studies, and we have Mr. Matthews.  He’s the funniest teacher at our school, and doesn’t give us much homework. Did I mention he’s young too? Well he’s the youngest teacher, I’m pretty sure he’s like, twenty-seven years old. We take two seats in the back together and wait for class to start. As I wait, I listen to the other girls that about the new guy. They say they saw him, and claim he is a model and a pro athlete.

Then the bell rings, and Mr. Matthews walks into the classroom. He claps his hands and announces, “Today we will have two new students joining our class today, first is Serena, who is from Kansas. Will you please come in, Serena?”

The door opens and Serena walks in, she is clearly Asian, Chinese maybe? She has long raven black hair, and large eyes. She wears a plaid headband, a white shirt with a black jacket, and dark jeans with matching boots. “Hello, my name is Serena Tang, and I moved here because of my father’s job.” Serena introduce herself in a shy, quiet voice.

“Okay! Why don’t you take a seat next to Abby. Abby raise your hand.” Abby raises her hand, and Serena walks over and takes a seat.

“Hey! My name is Amber,” I say to Serena. “Welcome to Crawford!”

“Thanks,” she replies shyly. I can tell she is one of those people that is shy at first, but once you get to know them, they are the most insane person you have ever met.

“Next order of business! The next student, is the one the girls have all been waiting for!” Mr. Matthews says, the girls starts to chatter among themselves excitedly. Some squeal with excitement, others takes out their makeup and put on some touch ups.

“Mr. Walker, will you please come in?” Mr. Matthews says over the noise. Even though Mr. Matthews puts it in a form of a question, it really is a command. The door opens again, and in walks a boy. All the girls gape at him, making googly eyes at him. But to me, he looks strangely familiar, the hair and eye color, the height, and clothes. Then it clicks, he’s the Changer!

Reflection part four

PAUSE

FAST FORWARD

I concentrated hard, so that a throbbing vein popped out in my temples, struggling to break the telepathic barrier that kept me from hearing the little conversation. Everyone else however, was staring at me. That was when I had realized how awkward it was to have a spoonful of mashed potatoes and brown rice halfway to my wide mouth with my eyes squeezed tight.
